This is not a medical device

The Stepio Growth Strap is a sports accessory. It is not FDA-cleared, it is not a medical device, and it does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or condition. A patellar tendon strap changes how load passes through the tendon while it is worn. It does nothing to the underlying growth plate, and the effect stops when the strap comes off.

Osgood-Schlatter is managed, not cured

Osgood-Schlatter is linked to a growth spurt. It settles when the growth plate closes, and that happens on the body's schedule, not ours. Anyone who tells you a product cures it is lying to you. What a strap can do is make the days in between more bearable, so a kid keeps playing instead of sitting out the season.

This site is not medical advice

Everything we publish, including blog posts, FAQs, study references and customer stories, is general information. It is not a diagnosis and it is not a treatment plan for your child. Only a doctor who has examined your child can give you that. Never delay seeking medical advice because of something you read here.

See a doctor if

Pain is severe, or wakes your child at night, or is present at rest. The knee is swollen, hot or red. There is fever. The knee locks, gives way, or cannot be straightened. Pain followed a fall or a blow. A limp does not improve within a few days. Pain is in both knees and getting worse. Any of these needs a real examination, not a strap.

Stop using the strap if

Your child reports tingling, numbness, pins and needles, or cold or discoloured skin below the knee. The skin under the strap is irritated or broken. Pain increases while wearing it. Remove it and speak to a healthcare professional.

Results vary

Reviews and testimonials on this site describe individual experiences. They are not a promise of what you will get. Comfort depends on the child, the sport, the stage of the growth spurt, and how well the strap is fitted.

Research references

Where we cite research, including guidance from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Academy of Pediatrics, we do so to describe the general state of knowledge about Osgood-Schlatter. Those organisations have not reviewed, endorsed or approved Stepio or any of our claims.
